Changeable weather returns to start June

Unusually gusty
Changeable weather returns to start June

The heatwave is behind us and as June gets started there's a return of more unsettled and changeable weather thanks to a switch in pressure systems.

The presence of high-pressure and a heat dome produced historic May temperatures, but that broke with a thundery outcome. Keep an eye on the WeatherRadar early in the week with more thunderstorms possible.

Why it's hard to pinpoint thunderstormsread more

Tuesday sees heavy showers with a chance of thundery outbreaks and small hail, mostly across central to eastern areas of England and south-east Scotland. Winds are gaining unusual strength for summer too.

Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible locally, primarily along coastal areas of Ireland and south-western Wales and England.

Temperature wise, it is cooler, and made to feel even cooler by the winds. Dropping to around average for the start of June, before heading slightly above towards the weekend.

From Sunday into next week, there are some signs of drier and sunnier conditions after this generally unsettled week is over.
