Staying sun safe as heat rises

Highs reach up to 30 °C over the weekend.

With heat on the rise and UV at high levels from Friday, here's some tips on how to stay safe under the sun's UV rays, all year round.

Daily highs reach 30 degrees over the weekend. The simplest ways to stay protected is by using sunscreen, wearing a hat, and covering skin. It is often recommended to avoid direct sunlight around midday.

Each level of the UV index brings a greater risk of skin damage. When applying suncream, look for an SPF of at least 30 which provides around half an hour of protection, and reapply through the day.

The UV index ranges from one, little risk, to 11, extreme risk of damage. This weekend, and as summer approaches, you need to watch out for any rating of three or higher. The highest rating ever recorded in the UK is an eight.

You can keep an eye on current and coming temperatures via the TemperatureRadar, and the daily UV index for the next six days through the home screen.
