A risk of thunderstorms developing throughout the coming days, with weather warnings in force.

Over Friday 20th and Saturday 21st September, weather warnings are in force for a risk of thunderstorms.

Thundery showers look to develop through Friday, chiefly affecting central and southern England, in addition to Wales. Storms have already begun spawning across south-east England as of Friday morning.

The risk looks greater however across south-west portions, including Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Gloucester, spanning into South Wales, before easing into the evening.

A renewed risk later in the night across southern portions of England, and continuing into Saturday as the showers extend northwards into the Midlands.

Over the coming days showers and thunderstorms could bring locally torrential downpours, bringing a risk of flooding and standing water, gusty winds, a risk of hail and also frequent bursts of lightning.

Rainfall rates are expected to be high, with up to 50 - 60 mm of rain possible in just a few hours in the heaviest downpours.

Showers will be hit or miss though, so while potentially potent, not everyone will see them with areas away from here seeing increasing amounts of sunshine developing through the day.
