Breakfast brief
Temperatures drop as cold front arrives

A cold front will be sinking southwards bringing a band of rain and colder air.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the breakfast brief, offering your daily weather forecast and a sneak peek at the day's news.

Weather outlook

A narrow band of heavy rain associated with a cold front and low pressure system will be sinking southwards across the UK and Ireland through the day.

Turning drier, clearer and colder in its wake, aside from a few blustery showers blowing in from the north-west, these perhaps turning wintry over the tops of the Scottish Highland mountains.

A chillier night to come in comparison to recent nights, with temperatures dropping down to 6°C to 8°C widely by dawn.

What's coming up in the news

Temperatures are beginning to feel more autumnal this week, and we could see the first morning ground frost of the season. Find out the chances, and where it is most likely, later this morning.
