Homemade Christmas decorations

Now the Christmas Tree is up you may be thinking about how to decorate it with tinsel, baubles and lights, but have you considered some homemade decorations?

Instead of using traditional shop-bought ornaments, you could head down to the arts and craft section in your local supermarket where you can find some supplies to make your own with the children.

You could simply paint some leftover toilet rolls and turn them into Christmas characters. Buy some pipe cleaners to give the reindeer antlers or some felt to create Santa’s hat and beard.

If you buy some coloured card, you can create your own ornaments for the tree. How about a card bauble or a 3D snowman?

You could even use nature for your ornaments. Grab some pine cones from the garden and decorate them with paint, ribbons or glitter to put on the tree. Or you could find some small twigs and tie them together with some coloured string or ribbon.

Have you got some oranges? If so, you can even make some scented ornaments for your tree. Simply cut some orange slices and bake them on a low heat for around four hours.

Make sure you check on them regularly and turn them with a spatula. Once they are almost dry, you can make a little hole in the top and tie it to your tree.
