Southern drought rolls on
Another north-south split forms

Heavier rain at times moves through parts of Ireland and Scotland.

It's a phrase that's been repeated many times in recent weeks, but a north-south split returns again this week.

This is first notable on Tuesday where outbreaks of rain form across the north and west of the UK and Ireland. A frontal system moves through, bringing stronger gusts of around 30-35 mph around the Irish and Scottish coasts and hills.

Over the weekend, temperatures dropped to 1.1°C and 2.2°C in Braemar and Balmoral respectively.

Tuesday stays drier with sunny spells to the south and east, before temperatures rise again. Highs of up to 34°C are possible in south-east England locally.

More widely in the high-20s and low-30s in the south-east while still cooler elsewhere with rain continuing to the north.

Beyond Wednesday, temperature drop a little for the south-east, and conditions remain cool and changeable towards the north thanks to an area of low pressure to the north of Scotland.

Meanwhile, the temperature drop is due to northwesterly winds. The hot and settled weather to the south ensures that the ongoing drought will not end any time soon.

This is a notable trend for London in particular, which will pass the 28 day record without any rainfall on Tuesday, and the capital could even go the whole of July without a drop.
