Winter vs spring
Split in conditions forming

Weather radar map showing rain bands over western Ireland and Scotland in blue, with brighter conditions and sunshine icons over southeast England and western Europe, plus city temperature labels. It's getting warmer, but certainly more pleasant for parts of England than elsewhere.

Temperatures are on the rise across the UK and Ireland, but there's a definitive split in conditions forming.

Across much of England, away from the north, blissful spring sunshine will rain down on Wednesday. Elsewhere, it remains actual rainfall with a wintry gloom also remaining.

These conditions take shape throughout Tuesday, with morning cloud cover across both countries steadily dissipating over England.

Overnight, the next Atlantic rain band sweeps into Ireland, meaning a wet start for many on Wednesday in the country as the band also reaches western Scotland.

It isn't just the rain though, by Thursday low pressure arrives, bringing with it strong gusting winds. These initially reach highs of around 40 mph (64 km/h) for Dublin and southern Scotland, perhaps a little higher in northern Wales too.

By Friday, conditions turn stormier with gusts reaching around 70 mph (112 km/h) on the Isle of Man and up to 60 mph (96 km/h) on either side of the Irish Sea.
