Storm Ciarán, the third named storm of the season, is set to arrive from Wednesday night.

November officially opens on a stormy note as Ciarán has been named by the Met Office.

The deep area of low pressure is set to bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of the UK and Ireland from Wednesday night, November 1st, and into Thursday November 2nd.

Bearing the brunt of this storm looks to be the south coast of England, Wales and southern Ireland. Wind gusts may locally reach over 70 - 80 mph along exposed coastal areas here, but could reach as high as 50 - 60 mph even for some inland areas.

Rainfall totals are also expected to reach 20- 30 mm across much of England and Wales, though locally higher totals are anticipated over hilly areas.

This bringing a risk of flooding and road surface spray, especially given the persistent rainfall in recent days and subsequent saturated soils.

The storm may also bring record-low pressure readings for Wales and England on Thursday. The current November UK-wide record is held at 948hpa, with some weather models currently indicating lows of around 950hPa.

Storm warnings are already visible inside the app for Wednesday, as strong, gale-force winds arrive to southern portions.
