Temperatures over 30 °C - Early heatwave in south-western Europe

10:15
16 April 2026

Temperatures over 30 °C
Early heatwave in south-western Europe

Temperatures on the Iberian Peninsula are already unusually high for mid-April.

In southern Spain and Portugal, as well as in the Ebro Valley, the thermometer is set to reach around 30 degrees from Thursday.

The TemperatureRadar shows the first hot days in south-western Europe.

The warm weather will then spread to the western Mediterranean. This means that neighbouring France and Italy will also experience a brief taste of early summer. However, temperatures there are set to drop again after the weekend.

The heatwave is set to continue in Spain and Portugal next week. Temperatures could even reach as high as 36 degrees.

Meanwhile, the pressure set-up reponsible is keeping cooler air over the UK and Ireland with lows dropping back to the low single-digits by the weekend.

Severe weather hits Mallorca and Italy. Severe thunderstorms. . . Thursday, 10 September 2026
Numerous thunderstorms are sweeping across La Palma. The many lightning symbols on the radar and lightning map show that there is heavy lightning activity across large parts of the island. The thunderstorms are striking particularly in the island’s interior and in the south. On the right, you can see the aftermath: a large fallen tree has buried a car beneath it. Emergency services are clearing up the damage. So, along with the thunderstorms, not only heavy rain but also gusts of wind can become a problem.
