Storm Ashley wreaks havoc across UK/IE

Storm Ashley is continuing to batter the UK and Ireland, as winds gust over 90 mph.

With the west of Ireland bearing the brunt of Ashley's impacts, winds are topping 80 mph across parts of Galway and Mayo, huge seas are approaching the west coast.

19.5 metre high waves have been recorded out in the Atlantic off the west coast of Ireland, the staggering, equivalent height of four double decker buses.

Across the Republic of Ireland, 53,000 have been reported to be without power according to ESB Networks, with electricity cables downed in places such as Dundrum. Hundreds remain without power across the UK too.

41 flood warnings and 97 flood alerts currently in place by the Environment Agency, while the River Severn has burst its banks amidst heavy rain, submerging Worcester in flood waters.

Disruption continues as dozens of flights have been cancelled across Belfast and Dublin, in addition to parts of Scotland.
