Overcast but improving in coming days

A more autumnal picture
Overcast but improving in coming days

Lots of showers around on the WeatherRadar later.

This July day is feeling more akin to autumn than the height of mid-summer, but it's looking up from here.

It's a gloomy and overcast picture, particularly so for the end of July with extensive cloud filling the sky, accompanied by spells of rain.

Plenty of blustery showers will develop across the UK and Ireland through the day, with more persistent and organised spells skimming southern England later too.

Under the thick cloud conditions will be cooler, with temperatures widely reaching the high-teens, perhaps brushing around 20°C across eastern portions.

The brighter news though, is that more sunshine is in the forecast to end the week, some even for Ireland later today, with temperatures climbing into the weekend and next week.

Numerous thunderstorms are sweeping across La Palma. The many lightning symbols on the radar and lightning map show that there is heavy lightning activity across large parts of the island. The thunderstorms are striking particularly in the island’s interior and in the south. On the right, you can see the aftermath: a large fallen tree has buried a car beneath it. Emergency services are clearing up the damage. So, along with the thunderstorms, not only heavy rain but also gusts of wind can become a problem.
