Outbreaks of rain push north-eastward

Rounds of heavy rain and brisk winds will push up from the south-west throughout Wednesday.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the breakfast brief, offering your daily weather forecast and a sneak peek at the day's news.

Weather outlook

A low pressure system out to the south-west will slowly drive up through the day, bringing a heavy and persistent band of rain initially to Ireland, spreading into south-west England and Wales, continuing its track north-eastwards through the day.

Brisk winds will accompany the rain along Irish Sea coasts, particularly for the east coast of Ireland and west of Wales where gusts may locally exceed 40 mph.

The bulk of the rain then clearing eastwards overnight, but with further pulses of heavy rain pushing into the south-west once again.
