Hottest day on record: 39.1C in the UK

Temperatures have already rocketed to 39.1C as the hottest day ever in the UK, beating the previous record of 38.7C.

The all-time record, previously sat at 38.7C from 2019, has just been (provisionally) broken by a staggering 39.1C, prior to midday. This temperature was just now observed in Charlwood, Surrey.

This follows the hottest night on record of 25.9C at Emley Moor in West Yorkshire.

Temperatures are still on the rise, and likely to hit 40C imminently.
