The ski season may be over, but winter has returned to the higher elevations of the Alps with force.

On Friday morning, the snow line dropped to below 1500 metres, with high mountain resorts in Switzerland such as Arosa or Sils im Engadin now covered in snow again.

Half-term holidaymakers returning from the southern Alps have faced winter road conditions on high Alpine passes. Some passes are closed due to danger of slippery conditions.
