Earth Day 2023
Celebrate and protect our planet

Hands pass a globe to child

Happy Earth Day! Today is a day to remember to treat our planet with the greatest respect and love, and to carry that forward each and every day.

While we celebrate our home planet every day, this is the 53rd consecutive year of Earth Day bringing us all together.

Since the first ever Earth Day in 1970 the movement has expanded to more than 190 countries with various events taking place today to mark the occasion.

Over those decades, the project has helped plant hundreds of millions of trees across 31 countries, assisted in raising $7 billion to support green school causes, and worked tirelessly to campaign in favour of the environment.

Take part in official events such as the Canopy Project to plant trees around the world, or the Great Global Clean-up.

In the UK and Ireland there are many events taking place including public clean-ups, talks, and social events. Find an event near you on the Earth Day website.

The day has never been more necessary, with the recent WMO State of the Global Climate report revealing that we have seen new records for sea level rise and glacier melt in 2022.

Despite this, it is never too late to take action for the better of the planet. Whether it is reducing the use of fossil fuels through the use of an electric car, eating more plant-based meals, or simply taking a deeper interest in the issues involved.

Whatever you do today, know that millions of people are working towards improving the planet we all rely on.
