    Weekend outlook: North-south split develops

2 October 2026

Weekend outlook
North-south split develops

Wind map showing 30 mph winds near Glasgow, 25 mph around Aberdeen and Dublin, and lighter 14-21 mph winds across England.
A north-south split develops over the weekend.

It's a weekend split in two depending on exactly where you are. Unsettled to the north, more settled to the south.

High pressure is influential across the southern half of the UK, leaving more northerly areas more changeable this weekend. This leads to rain and showers across northern to western Scotland.

This leaves a mix of sun and cloud for areas further south, with a slight chance of showers in central and southwestern England into southern Wales. Otherwise, it's mild, slightly warmer than average in the south.

Sunday sees drier and more settled weather continuing across the southern half of the UK through to Monday thanks to the high pressure, though some mistly or foggy mornings are likely followed by sunny spells and relatively warm afternoons.

More cloud builds across Ireland, and it's again windy and rainy across Scotland for the day. Overnight temperatures are also dropping, with lows around 5°C in central England in the early morning and possibly cooler still in more rural areas.

Sunday itself is still pleasantly warm with highs in the low-20s in parts of southeastern England.
