Downpours & thunderstorms
Deluge in parts of UK prompts warnings

Weather warning map showing rain warnings active in south Wales and south-west England.
Current warning areas for heavy rain on Thursday.

Weather warnings for heavy rain are live for southern Wales and south-west England, where a deluge is expected Thursday.

Cardiff, within the warning area, can expect up to 20 mm of rain throughout the day, while to the south, Plymouth and the surrounding area could see up to 50 mm.

There are currently no flood warnings in place anywhere in the country, though surface level floods should be expected.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to form, though these will arrive after the area of rain has moved along. Current forecasts show the first patch of storms around Southampton in the afternoon.

By Thursday afternoon, the heavier rainfall will reach northern Wales and the north-west of England after a brush with the West Midlands.
