Violent thunderstorms left a trail of destruction across Italy's Po Valley on Wednesday. The storms were caused by several so-called supercells – the most dangerous type of thunderstorm.

Between Milan and Verona, the storms tore roofs off buildings. In the Veneto region, hailstones up to 7 cm in diameter caused considerable damage.

Lombardy and Piedmont were also severely affected by hail, gusts of wind, and heavy rain reported across the regions.
