Storm Agnes, our first named storm of the season arrives today and we'll be keeping you updated throughout.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to your breakfast briefing, preparing you for the day's weather and offering a sneak peek at today's articles!

Weather outlook

A deep area of low pressure, known as Storm Agnes, will be arriving to the UK and Ireland today bringing stormy conditions.

Strong winds and heavy rainfall is expected, alongside the potential for large waves, particularly across western portions and Irish Sea coasts.

Winds could reach up to 50 mph for western inland areas (less to the east), with up to around 70 mph for most exposed locations. You can find all the detail in the forecast and impacts expected right here.

The storm will gradually weaken and move away through the course of the night, though it will certainly remain wet and windy out there still for some.

What's coming up in the news

The first named storm of the year arrives this morning, with widespread impacts across the UK and Ireland. Check back through the day for the latest updates in our live blog to stay informed on how the system develops and any fallout as it passes.
