Breakfast brief
More unsettled as Éowyn arrives tonight

Storm Éowyn inches closer through the day, with heavy rain and winds growing in strength before impact overnight.

Kickstarting your day

Welcome to the Breakfast Brief, your first forecast for the day and a chance to catch up on what you may have missed.

Weather outlook

The first signs of stormy weather arrive today as winds build throughout the day, starting early in western regions of Ireland, where Éowyn will first impact this evening with gusts reaching up to around 70 mph (113 km/h) by midnight.

It is also much wetter today, with a thick band of rain pushing east over Ireland from the early morning, with chances of thunderstorms. This then reaches the UK by early afternoon, where rain also turns to snow over parts of Scotland.

This evening, Storm Éowyn truly arrives. With very strong gale force winds, heavy downpours, and snow. Multiple weather warnings are in place.
