Weekend weather
Sunscreen for some in a blustery outlook

Weather temperature map of the UK and western Europe showing cooler blue conditions over northern Britain and warmer red-orange temperatures near Belgium and the Netherlands on 09.05.
A 10 degree split in highs for Saturday.

A split in conditions forms for the weekend, turning warmer towards the south of England but still a winter-like feeling to the north while Ireland faces blustery winds.

Saturday begins this split, highs reach around 20 °C in southern England, with rising UV levels too, but in Scotland it remains cooler after the warmth there last week. Highs around 10 °C and lower further north, but generally brighter.

Rain does move through around the Scottish-English border and through Northern Ireland with heaver, more scattered showers possible in Wales and the Midlands.

Dry for much of Ireland, though cloudier in the south with patchy rain to the south-west but sunny spells elsewhere. A generally gusty Saturday across Ireland and into Northern Ireland with gusts of up to 30 mph (50 km/h) to the south and east.

By Sunday, showers are clearing to the south, while the north still remains cooler but bright. Slightly warmer further south and into low double digits in north-east England. A cold Saturday night could bring morning frost around the Highlands and Scottish-English border.

Gusty conditions felt by Ireland on Saturday reach parts of the UK by Sunday too, broadly across Wales and England, plus separately to northern Scotland. Peak gusts expected around 35 mph to the south-west and far north.
