Gales and rain build
Stormy week with potential for Austen

Two-panel wind forecast for 21.10 showing 30–40 mph winds across Ireland at noon and up to 50 mph near Liverpool by 19:00, with a warning symbol.
A frontal system sweeps through on Wednesday brings gusting winds.

Weather warnings are already live for a wet and stormy week across the UK and Ireland which brings the possibility of this season's first named storm.

First, Tuesday brings cloudy and wet weather across many regions thanks to a slow-moving frontal system. Only in Ireland and Nothern Ireland is it drier with sunny spells before rain moves in from the atlantic later in the day.

By Wednesday, unsettled conditions build. First with early rain across northern parts of the UK before a complex frontal system moves in from Ireland into the southern half of the UK. This brings strong winds and coastal gales, cooling the air with the brisk conditions too. Take care on the roads.

Thursday keeps the changeble theme with stronger winds at times before all eyes turn to Friday where a chance of Storm Austen rests.

It is still too early to be sure of the exact path the deep low-pressure system will take but severe gales in the south and south-west of England are likely. As the picture becomes clearer, the chance of the system being named rests on the impacts it would bring.
