North-south split remains - Third heatwave of the season

North-south split remains
Third heatwave of the season

Map of the UK and Ireland showing forecast temperatures for Thursday 9 July, with London at 33°C and Cardiff at 29°C in deep red across southern England, fading to orange further north with Aberdeen at 20°C; a thermometer icon sits centrally, with western Europe including Amsterdam at 25°C and Brussels at 28°C visible to the east.
The latest heatwave peaks later in the week.

The third heatwave of the heat arrives in the second half of the week, centred once again in southern parts of the UK, but it won't compare to June.

Daily highs are in the low-30s later in the week around south-east England, perhaps reaching the mid-30s locally in some areas.

Despite this, the impact shouldn't be so severe thanks to lower humidity and fewer warmer nights. This heat will again be centred over south-east to central England, with cooler and cloudier conditions remaining towards the north.

In addition to the cloud, Ireland and Scotland will also feel stronger winds than elsewhere, adding to the cooler feel.

As the weekend approached, the hottest days begin to ease. Thunderstorms are possible, though it is too early to tell for sure where.

Into next week, temperatures remain warm but fall back below the 30 °C.
