Wet and windy as cold front arrives

A low pressure system will be bringing wet and windy weather through Tuesday, turning chillier in the wake of the cold front.

Winds will be widely gusting 30 - 35 mph across large parts of England, Wales and Ireland through the day.

Gusts will be reaching 40 - 45 mph across exposed and elevated parts of Northern England, and more widely across Scotland where gusts will be a little higher across the northern coast, reaching around 50 mph.

Here, amber weather warnings are in force inside the app for the north-east tip of Aberdeenshire, Caithness, Shetland and Orkney.

Blustery showers will also be blowing in from the north-west, in the wake of a cold front sinking southwards, which will be bringing outbreaks of rain.

Turning much colder in the wake of the cold front too, with the potential for showers to turn wintry over the tops of the Scottish Highlands, with a colder night than recently to come.
