Weather warnings remain in place

Throughout the weekend weather warnings will remain in force across the UK and Ireland, with a renewed risk of thunderstorms but also heavy rain.

Saturday will be rinse and repeat from Friday, with sunny spells and thundery showers developing.

Thunderstorms could pop up at any point through the day, with the risk spanning large portions of England and Wales and continuing to push up from the south overnight.

Thunderstorms bring a risk of torrential downpours, hail, gusty winds and frequent bursts of lightning, alongside localised flooding.

Through Sunday the thundery element of showers looks to dissipate, being replaced by an area of heavier and more organised rain moving northwards, impacting south-west England initially.

Some particularly heavy spells of rain are expected across Wales, central and southern England where rainfall totals may locally reach 50 mm in just a few hours, and up to 80 mm within the 24 hour period. Eastern fringes of Ireland may also be affected.

An amber weather warning is in force further west, while a yellow rain warning covers the wider area, as seen above.

This, on top of Saturday's thundery downpours will bring a continued threat of flooding and road surface spray in some areas.

Heavy rain will continue to track northwards into Monday too, so keep an eye on the WeatherRadar for your morning commute.
