Plane caught struck by lightning

Jason Hamm caught the moment a bolt of lightning hit a plane full of passengers at the Little Rock Airport in Arkansas, USA.

A bolt of lightning was caught on video hitting an American Eagle plane on Sunday 25th June. The good news is that the plane was able to taxi to the gate after the strike.

No passengers were injured and no damage to the plane was reported. Aircraft are designed to withstand lightning strikes, both in air and on the ground, and have extensive safety measures in place.

Although being hit by lightning while on a plane can be startling, it's a common occurrence and doesn't tend to result in catastrophic consequences.

Modern aircraft are equipped with lightning protection systems to minimize the potential damage caused by lightning strikes.

These lightning protection systems consist of conductive materials, such as aluminium, embedded within the aircraft's structure. They help direct the electrical current from the lightning strike safely through the aircraft and then dissipate it into the surrounding air.
