Residents in Mallorca have seen snowstorms this week amid severe weather delivered to the popular tourist island by Storm Juliette.

Over higher elevations of the island gusting winds and snowfall brought drivers to a standstill although many made the most of the conditions skiing through the streets.

Palm trees so accustomed to warm, sunny days were bent under the weight of the snow which follows a bout of snowfall on the island in January.

A member of the Weather & Radar team was on site in Mallorca to capture this footage.

Elsewhere Juliette resulted in substantial damages with gales and heavy rain toppling trees in the seaside resort of Cala Rajada, trapping cars beneath as they fell.

Damage was also reported to local stores and a water pipe was ripped out of the ground by tree roots as the tree collapsed.

The strong winds also affected the seas with waves rising to heights of 8 metres as they crashed into the beaches to the north of the island.

Conditions on Mallorca and the Balearic area are now calming with moderate winds today and some rainfall to arrive by tomorrow afternoon.

Storm warnings remain in place for Menorca to the northeast.
