Try this experiment! Have you ever made a frozen bubble?

Try this experiment!
Have you ever made a frozen bubble?

Have you ever tried making a frozen soap bubble before? You can only do it when it's this cold!

When temperatures are low enough you can create something spectacular: frozen soap bubbles. Now, it may just finally be our time to shine, with temperatures plummeting to as low as -10°C across parts of Scotland tonight!

Temperatures must be below -5°C, with hardly any precipitation and light winds. With ordinary soap bubbles, mixing detergent with water does the trick. But in order for them to freeze, they have to be stronger.

The following recipe works best:

  • 100ml water
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 30 ml washing-up liquid (preferably without perfumes and other additives)
  • 30 ml corn syrup (you can omit if need be)

For the above recipe, you first add the sugar to warm water and dissolve it. Then add dish soap and corn syrup. The mixture should then cool down in the fridge or outside for a while.

Using a straw, dip one end into your solution, blow carefully through the other onto a flat, sheltered surface outdoors, and watch the magic happen!

So keep an eye on the TemperatureRadar for when it gets cold enough to produce these frozen beauties. It makes for an especially fun, family activity, just don't forget to send in your pictures to our uploader for us to feature!

Sunny weather is forecast for Bordeaux at around 20 degrees, and Bilbao is also expected to be sunny at around 27 degrees. A large warning sign with a flame symbol indicates an increased risk of forest fires.

Super Typhoon Bavi threatens Taiwan. Up to 1,000 mm of rain. . . Wednesday, 8 July 2026
The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
