Tracking the tropics: Hurricane Danielle, Earl and Kay

Tracking the tropics
Hurricane Danielle, Earl and Kay

Atlantic storms

Earl has just become the latest and only second-named hurricane of this year’s 2022 Atlantic season.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Earl, the latest hurricane to be named, is sustaining winds of 85mph, with even higher gusts, though could make for a major Category 3 system by the end of the week.

Prior to Earl, Danielle, became the first of this season's Atlantic hurricanes on September 2nd and was also the first named on storm since early July. August was the first August month in 25 years to not have a single named Atlantic storm.

Danielle is currently churning away in the ocean, producing dangerous conditions in the north-central Atlantic, though is now expected to weaken through the rest of the week as it heads towards north-west Europe.

Hurricane Kay on the other hand, is presently tracking along Mexico’s Pacific coast, delivering heavy rains here, but also is expected to extend the heatwave across California, due to its easterly airflow.
