Tornado damages houses in Poland

The WeatherRadar shows a severe thunderstorm in Poland that has produced a tornado.

On Saturday evening, a tornado caused severe damage to several houses and other properties in southern Poland.

The small-scale tornado formed in connection with a so-called supercell, a type of thunderstorm associated with a high risk of severe weather.

The village of Balcarzowice, located halfway between Wrocław and Kraków, was hit particularly hard. There, the tornado ripped roofs off of five houses. Dozens of trees were uprooted and fell onto roads, pavements, and cars. As a result, the nearby motorway was temporarily blocked.

Power cuts were also reported in many buildings. The storm caused damage in neighbouring towns as well, partly due to heavy rain and hail, which were also part of the storm.
