Winter blues
Tips to fight that lacklustre feeling

Woman blows snow

Winter can leave some feeling a bit sluggish or lacklustre. Feeling blue this season is normal so we want to share some of the symptoms of the winter blues, why you get it and some tips to help fight them.

The typical symptoms for the winter blues include: declining motivation, fatigue and increased need for sleep, mood swings, feelings of hopelessness, hunger for sweets and lack of creativity.

These seasonal low moods are often related to the lack of daylight. The body lacks UV light from the sun which stimulates the happy hormone serotonin. Instead, the body creates more melatonin, the sleep hormone causing fatigue.

Here are five things you can try to reduce the feeling of the winter blues these include:

  • Getting out and about for 30 minutes for some fresh air
  • Call your friends and socialise
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet
  • Get your blood pumping and mood raised through some exercise
  • Relax your body and mind with some lightly scented candles

Don’t let winter get you down, but if it does try our tips to see if they can help you.
