Thunderstorms in Ireland
Low pressure bringing unsettled weather

Weather map of the UK and Ireland showing low pressure and its moving air frontsLow pressure in the English Channel is pushing cool and warm air across the continent.

Unsettled weather is being felt across the UK and Ireland, thanks to low pressure resting in the English Channel.

The system is funnelling cool sea air on its western side towards Western Europe, while on its east, warm, drier air is being pushed over Central Europe.

Here, gusting winds are being felt for those in south-west England, while isolated thunderstorms are expected in parts of southern Ireland.

As the low-pressure system moves, rainfall is following in its wake. Firstly with heavy downpours in England on Tuesday, with continued rainfall along the eastern coast on Wednesday morning, being pushed in from Europe.

The system eases from Wednesday afternoon.
