It isn't just Wednesday's solar eclipse in the skies above, over the coming nights the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak.

In the UK and Ireland, conditions are slightly mixed. Despite clear skies for much of the UK, cloud hugs western coasts while central to western Ireland sees rain and cloud cover too over the coming nights.

Tips for observation

You’ll have the best chance of seeing the display after twilight has ended, in places with little light, far away from large cities. With a clear view of the sky, you can see up to 30 shooting stars an hour.
