The solar eclipse captivated thousands of people on Wednesday evening. As there were hardly any clouds to obstruct the view, the celestial spectacle could be seen from the UK all the way to the Mediterranean.

The sight was particularly spectacular in Spain, where the sun disappeared completely. And as if that weren’t enough, later that evening there were also shooting stars from the Perseids to admire.

The next solar eclipse will take place as early as next year. On 2 August 2027, the event will be visible from southern Spain across North Africa to the Red Sea.
