Storm over the UK and Ireland: Low pressure brings mild air to north-western Europe

Bringing mild air
Stormy but warmer days

WindRadar shows hurricane-force winds on the Scottish coast during the night leading up to Friday.

A powerful low-pressure system with hurricane-force winds brings severe storm gusts to northern Scotland in particular on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Hurricane-force winds of 75 miles per hour (120 km/h) and above are expected in the Hebrides and along the Scottish coast.

The low pressure system will then move on towards Scandinavia. From Friday afternoon onwards, conditions will become increasingly stormy, particularly along the coast of Norway. In addition to strong winds, the storm will also bring mild air.

Today, the strong winds resulted in widespread power cuts across Ireland to begin Friday, but the stormy conditions are now easing into the weekend.
