Nicole wreaked havoc across Florida, just over a month after Hurricane Ian battered the state. The Tropical Depression is now moving across Georgia and the Carolinas.

The late-season hurricane made landfall near Vero Beach, Florida on November 10th, packing a widespread punch across the state with its immense wind field. The death roll has since risen to four.

Parts of Flagler County, Daytona Beach were first devastated by Ian, and now Nicole is eating away at their coastline and vulnerable beaches, even in its wake. Several homeowners had to evacuate, with their homes are at risk of falling into the water.

In just 43 days, homes that were built in the 1960s have been lost to the sea. The last two months of erosion from storms have erased tens of metres of backyard beaches, and left them on the edge of cliffs.

Category one systems can still produce devastating impacts, especially when multiple storms pummel the same area in close succession, the way that Ian and Nicole did.

You can keep up to date with our US team's blog, as the system moves north-eastwards across the states, bringing a renewed risk of flooding and also tornadoes.
