Storm Amy
Potential for named storm this week

Weather map of Europe dated Sunday, 14 September, showing pressure systems. A large low-pressure system with tightly packed isobars is centred to the west of Ireland and the UK, marked by blue contour lines and a white swirl symbol. Red contour lines mark areas of higher pressure, with a broad high centred over Russia near Moscow. The low-pressure system that could become Storm Amy.

The first named storm of the 2025/26 season could arrive as early as the coming weekend with strong winds, heavy rain, and large waves at the coast expected.

If named, the low-pressure system to the west of Ireland will become Storm Amy.

Even before the weekend, conditions this week look unsettled due to a separate system. With gusts of around 40 mph (64 km/h) in western Ireland and north-east Scotland by Wednesday, joining sweeping rain.

We are keeping a close watch on the system arriving over the weekend, track conditions yourself on the WeatherRadar.
