Storm Agnes impacted the UK and Ireland on Wednesday 27th September. Here's the latest on the event.

The storm hit Ireland not only first, but also hardest with wind gusts recorded over 80 mph.

In the UK the peak wind gusts reached 83 mph at Capel Curig in North Wales, while in Ireland, the Sherkin Island weather station reported a peak of 73 mph.

Torrential rain produced maximum rainfall totals of 44.6 mm in Ballypatrick Forest in Northern Ireland, with severe flooding reported in several other areas such as Limerick, Cork and Dublin.

The strongest winds whipped around the south and east coast of Ireland, channelling through the Irish Sea where large waves were generated.

The strong winds were felt from southern Ireland up to northern Scotland, where the Hebrides also saw huge waves crash against the Isle of Islay.

Later in the day the winds and waves also grew across south-west England and Wales, with big waves whipping onto the Penzance promenade.
