Stifling heat
Hottest night ever

Overnight minimum temperatures at 6am July 19th 2022Overnight minimum temperatures at 6am July 19th 2022

Last night was our hottest night on record, with temperatures barely falling below 25C across many parts of the UK.

Emley Moor in West Yorkshire saw the highest minimum temperature on record of 25.9C, surpassing our previous record of 23.9C from 1990.

When overnight minimums do not drop below 20C, it is termed a 'tropical night', which is what large swathes of the UK sweltered in last night.

With temperatures already at 30C by 9am, today could see temperatures soar to the 40C mark for the first time ever too, likely shattering our all-time temperature record.
