Storms threaten Roland-Garros finals

It is finals weekend at Roland-Garros with highs of 30°C and a threat of thunderstorms for both finals.

Defending champion and reigning world number 1 Iga Świątek is aiming for her fourth grand slam title today whilst opponent, Czech Karolina Muchová enters her first ever slam final.

Starting at 03:00 pm local time in Paris, temperatures hover just below 30°C and remains sweltering until the possible arrival of thunderstorms.

Pushing into Paris from the west, bouts of heavy rain and thundery conditions could arrive by 05:00 pm if the match is still ongoing. This is a possibility considering Muchová’s semi-final match which lasted over three hours, besting Aryna Sabalenka in three sets.

It is also moderately gusty, with winds able to lift dust from the famous Parisian clay courts to cause issues.

Men’s final

Tomorrow, we see almost identical conditions to today. Temperatures of around 30°C for the match start before rain threatens to disrupt proceedings.

With the men’s tour playing best-of-5 matches at grand slams it seems inevitable that play will face showers with rainfall surrounding the facility throughout the afternoon.

While the Court Philippe-Chatrier does feature a retractable roof, closing this would exacerbate issues with heat.
