Special interview
Inside the ECMWF with Florence Rabier

We recently attended the International Meteorological Festival in Italy and interviewed Florence Rabier, Director General from the ECMWF.

The ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) is an independent governmental organisation supported by most European Nations.

They produce global numerical weather predictions, with the centre holding one of the largest supercomputer facilities and meteorological data archives in the world.

ECMWF is based in three sites across Europe: Reading, England in addition to Bonn, Germany and the most recent addition, Bologna, Italy.

Clemens Teutsch-Zumtobel, our Austrian Meteorologist, finds out more from Florence Rabier all about the brand new supercomputer in Bologna, which launched on October 18th 2022.

Florence Rabier answers questions about improvements to the resolution of the ECMWF weather model, in addition to finding out how well the summer drought and heatwave was predicted by the supercomputer. Is it good news for Meteorologists and weather app users alike? Take a watch!
