Snow Moon rises amid severe storms

Snow Moon rises amid severe storms

Snow Moon

If you can find a break in the clouds tonight, look above to see the full Snow Moon in its glory.

As with all full moons, its name originates from Native American tribes who dubbed it the Snow Moon due to its coincidental timing with heavy snow which tended to fall in February.

Other names for the Snow Moon include the Hunger Moon and a very relevant Storm Moon.

It is not just the moon illuminating the sky tonight either.

The planets of Venus, Mars, and Mercury are all currently visible in the early hours just before dawn.

As the moon sets to the west, look east towards the horizon for these planets.

Check the conditions near you at any time using the WeatherRadar. While the Snow Moon peaks tonight it will appear full for a few days to come, meaning there may be an opening for you to stargaze amid duelling storms.
