Hundreds of shooting stars blazed overhead early Sunday morning, although visibility was poor here, our international users were treated to the spectacle!

One of the most active showers of the year, the Perseids, reached its peak in the early hour of Sunday morning while the UK and Ireland were under a blanket of cloud and showers.

Fortunately, Weather & Radar users around the world fared better with their visibility and captured many meteors fly by, as seen in the gallery above.

Some breaks in the cloud cover provided small opportunities to see the astronomical highlight of 2023. Including over the Irish Sea with the image above shared on social media.

If you were one of the unlucky ones who tried and failed to wish upon a shooting star, don't worry. The Perseids is active until around August 24, though the rate of meteors per hour slowly falls as we move away from the shower.

We would love to see the sights from home. If you caught, or manage to capture, a meteor, send it in by tapping the image icon in the app or using our dedicated uploader.
