Roofs hit on Sunday
Meteorite damage in Germany

On Sunday evening at around 07:00 pm, a meteor was visible in the evening sky in many parts of Central Europe.

The meteorite partially penetrated the Earth's atmosphere. As it burned up, it left a trail of light across the sky for about 10 seconds, some of it flashing. The trail remained visible for a while.

Did you know?

When an asteroid enters the Earth's atmosphere, it often breaks into many pieces. Most of them burn up, but the pieces that reach the ground are called meteorites.

Parts of the meteorite even damaged the roof of a house in Koblenz in western Germany. Damage has also been reported in other places in the region. No one was injured.
