Tricky visibility for many

July's full moon is set to rise tonight, with the best views in England for the Buck Moon, but rain and cloud obscures the sight for many.

Last year saw the Buck Moon rise as the year's first supermoon. No repeat this time for the July moon, which gets its name from Native Americans for its timing alongside the emergence of fresh antlers on deer at this time of year.

You should see the moon from around 10:00 pm this evening, check the astro info card to see exactly when the moon rises in your area.

Visibility looks best in southern to eastern England this evening, with mostly clear skies and light cloud, other than thicker clouds cover much of the UK otherwise with rain over parts of Ireland pushing east.

Changing names

The July full moon is also known as the Thunder Moon, for the thunderstorms which are common in July as it rises.

In Ireland, persistent rainfall across the weekend remains in place and cloud cover obscures the view elsewhere too.

While not technically a full moon, parts of Ireland and Scotland do see better viewing conditions on Monday evening for those who want to see the moon near the peak of its lunar cycle.
