Return of gusts and rain
Another unsettled weekend forecast

Weather map of the UK showing bands of rain moving east across Scotland and northern England, scattered showers over Ireland, and sunny conditions over southern England and mainland Europe. Before sunrise on Saturday, a band of heavy rain moves through with showers in its wake.

A week on from Storm Dave, the warm and calmer conditions of the week are being left behind again for the weekend.

Saturday sees a band of rain moving across Britain to start the day, which is followed by mostly sunny spells despite some showers to the west, further north, could turn wintry over higher ground of Scotland.

Meanwhile in Ireland, closer to an area of low-pressure in the Atlantic it remains very unsettled and windy, with gales around the coastline. Heavier, persistent rainfall may also see some thunder and lightning by the afternoon and a risk of localised flooding.

The strong winds remain forceful for a blustery Sunday across both the UK and Ireland. These are felt at their strongest around the northwestern coasts of Ireland and western Scotland with gusts of up to 55 mph (80 km/h).

Aside from the wind, the UK continues to see a mix of sunny spells and showers. These fall heavier to the west and persist throughout the day. It is much the same for Ireland, sunny spells interspersed with scattered showers, heavy at times, with a chance of hail in the mix too.

Gusts ease into the evening where temperatures drop to and around freezing resulting in a frosty start to Monday.
