Reporting from the river
River Thames dries up following heatwave

With Europe experiencing its worst drought in 500 years, many major rivers are drying up, including the River Thames.

Following the intense heat & a significant lack of rainfall over the past couple of months, the source at the River Thames has entirely dried up and been replaced by a barren landscape.

The original source has shifted several kilometres eastwards from its initial spot in Trewsbury Mead, just south-west of Cirencester in Gloucestershire, where several walkers come to hike the renowned Thames Path, which finishes in London.

David McMeeking, Manager of the Thames Head Inn, which is located by the original source, tells us how unprecedented this is, and we discuss how the changing climate may impact his business in the future.
