Weather myths
Rain at seven, fine by 11?

It is myth busting time and this week we’re taking a look at the saying ‘rain before seven, fine by 11’. Like most myths there is a foundation in truth here.

This seems based on the fact that weather systems tend to move quickly here in the UK because of westerly airflow from the Atlantic pushing weather fronts to the east. There is another line of thinking behind the reasoning. If rain has fallen overnight it’s possible that the bulk of the storm is over by the time we see the rain falling.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case and rain can (and often does) last longer than a morning due to weather systems that hang around.

This myth at times can be true but is not a reliable one to go by. It is said to be more relevant for fog than rain.
