More than 200 flood alerts and warnings are currently active across the UK as heavy rain continues to spread following weekend snow.

At the time of writing, there are currently 224 flood advisories in England with 42 warnings indicating that flooding is expected, these are mostly between a stretch of the south coast from Bournemouth to Lyme Regis.

Changing situation

Flood alerts are a live service and change throughout the day, some may have been added or removed since the current time.

Elsewhere, two alerts are active in Wales for South Pembrokeshire and Western Cleddau. Warnings in Scotland were active but have since been removed.

Flooding has already been reported in the West Country, with some schools closed in Somerset and Great Western Railway reporting blocked lines on their services.

On Monday, some people were warned to leave their homes ahead of the potential flooding, while Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue say they have so far responded to 74 calls for flooding in properties.

Further heavy rainfall, and a small area of snow for some, is set to arrive on Thursday.

Thursday on the WeatherRadar looks set to be a washout, with further flood warnings likely to be issued.

Rain for the rest of Tuesday is mildly light, with melted snow also raising the risk of flooding in areas that saw settled snowfall over the weekend.

The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
