A man in his 50s has confirmed to have passed away after a tree felled by Storm Henk hit his car on Tuesday, with wider disruption continuing.

Gloucestershire Police said Wednesday morning that officers were called to the scene of a fallen large tree on a route between Tetbury and Cirencester, where the vehicle was discovered.

Medical personnel and an air ambulance arrived soon after, but were unable to save the driver.

More than 650 flood warnings remain in place on Wednesday, despite the worst of the conditions now passing. Most of these are active in England with over 600 stretching across the country.

Flooding is already adding lengthy diversions to morning traffic on road and rail. Floodwater between London Paddington and South Wales stations sees a 40-minute detour for travellers.

Some routes have been cancelled entirely, including between Swindon and Bristol Parkway with operator Great Western Railway stating many other lines are also seeing severe delays.

Around 10,000 properties remained without power on Wednesday morning, according to the Energy Networks Association.

Scattered rainfall continues on Wednesday, though lighter than seen on Tuesday, with a chance of snow at higher altitudes in Scotland.
